  • How does this 3.4L Build-up sound?

    -Ceramic Coated Pace Setter Headers
    -Generation 3 Aluminum Heads with port/polish & 1.76" Intake Valves w/ 1.42" Exhaust Valves
    -Forged Crank & Balanced
    -Forged & Balnced Pistons
    -Forged Connecting Rods
-Crane Cams Gold Race Extruded Full Roller Rocker Arms 1.5:1 Ratio
    -CompCams High Energy Hydraulic Lifters
    -Comp Cams Valve Springs
-All new other valve train components, retainers, etc.
-Complete Port/Polish Upper, Lower Intake Manifolds
-Comp Cams Flat Tappet Hydraulic 1000-5000 RPM Camshaft 212In. 212Ex. .440 In. lift .440 Ex. lift Part# 16-233-4
    -Cylinders Bored 10 over
-62MM Throttle Body from RSM Racing
-Existing Flowmaster Series 40 Single In Dual Outexhaust setup
    -Hollowed Out Catalytic Converter
    -8MM Plug Wires
-NGK or other quality spark plugs
-Advanced Ignition Coils, MSD or Accel
-Ultra-Z Ram Air Hood (Functional) with K&N Panel type Radiator cover-mounted filter.
    -Water/Alcahol Injection Via Aqua-Tune
    -Mild 8-10 PSI Supercharger

Folks, without Boost I am hoping for around 250-260 Horsepower, Torque should obviously be much higher and with 8-10PSI I am hoping for 350-360+ HP and close to 400Ft.lb of Torque. Now tell me, does any of this sound unobtainable or out of reach of the 3.4L's abilities? I would appreciate the advice and no, I do not want to swap in a V8, already looked into that. Thanks.

I dont think water or alcahol injection would be of any use on such a mild motor (respectively). maybe if you are running 15-20psi turbo.

        lets save some money;
you wont break the stock crank(unless you run the motor without oil)
stock rods aren't gonna go unless you spin way past 7k rpm,I would have the shot peened, polished and balanced tho
speed pro hypertectic 3400 pistons(9.6 cr with gen 3 heads) shoundn't have a problem with mild boost(7-10 psi, alil more with a ic)
stock gen 3 rockers are 1.6 rollers,I'd use those, you'll need custom length pushrods for 'em
bigger cam,if you gonna run boost, call the cam comp, and get a custom grind suted for it
use ls6/ls2 springs and stuff(several threads about that at 60degreev6.com)
ask your machine shop how much they'd charge to bore the 3400 tb out to 60mm and use a 5.0 mustang throttebody blade,I bet that'd be alot cheeper than rsm
nothing wrong with the stock coils, but I would run a dis 4 with boost
you won't need the water injection

I also have plans for my 94 3.4, only mine are less complicated and will take a lot of time to save up. Have you estimated about how much all that will cost?

Check out my site. As far as I can tell I'm the only person whos done a huge build up like you plan on doing. My site is mostly up-to-date but I don't think it includes the machine work like bored 20 over, cryo treating everything, and balancing. My total bill on my project is sitting close to $15,000 and I'm not finished yet.

yeah man.. save money and reuse the crank and rods.. if you are worried bout the crank, get it cryo treated... polish the rods if you want. if you are worried bout the crank, dont run a blower as it puts added stress on the crank. If you want to do FI, do a turbo instead. I'm currently building a similar setup for my car, only turbo (i think..) i'm lookin around 3000 or so for the total bill as of now. that could get up to 4000 though. I'll be doing all my own work too. I will be reusing the stock heads though rather than switching to the newer aluminum ones. but hey, its your car man... good luck with the buildup. Should see pretty nice numbers when its done..

Dang I didn't expect to have anyone respond with such enthusiasm, but I'm glad I got some good, honest thoughts/impressions from ya'll. I am still in the debate stage as to what I want to do engine wise to my car and which routes to take, Turbo, Super, etc. Sounds like White95 is going to have a beast of a V6 on his hands. Oh and for an estimation on the price..let's see...I figure a lil' over $5,000 maybe $6,000 at most, but this ol' Redneck has some loot saved up. Still need a new paint job and some body work done however, and new hood and all is another $2,850.00! Stuff ain't cheap!!!
