  • Argh!! Replaced VSS, Gauge Cluster, Tightened some grounds, STILL no speedometer!!!

...and it still just bounces from active to innactive everytime I hit a bump... I had my car scanned just incase I had an SES and didn't see it... No codes... It will come on and function fully for awhile, then I'll hit a bump and it'll go all over the place and then to 0 for the next half an hour till it decides to work again...

Whats up with this? I checked every ground I could find and everything was good and tight... What else should I look for? and where does the Speedo Wire leave from the PCM? and what color is it under the dash? IS IT under the dash?

Does the odometer work when the gauge is reading 0?

Nope, Odometer, Tripometer, Speedometer, none of them work... Weird thing is I'm also getting no cruise control however the PCM seemingly know's how fast the car is going...

Odometer doesn't work at all or just doesn't change?

How do you know the PCM knows how fast you're going.

Because if it didn't I would have an SES and the car wouldn't get out of 1st gear... I disconnected the VSS completely for an experiment and got an SES and locked in 1st gear...

The odometer doesn't change when the speedometer isn't working...

              Here's whats happening

Speedometer doesn't work, reads 0 or bounces all over the place as I drive... No Odometer, No Tripometer, No Cruise Control...

              Hit a bump...

Speedometer magically just starts working again, Odometer reads milage, Tripometer reads milage, Cruise Control works again... until I hit another bump or just over time the Speedo goes out again...

Sounds like you've got a loose wire somewhere. Here's the information from the service manual on which ones to check, along with the schematic.
