I was just curious why so many people buy v6's and spend all kinds of money in mods rather than just buying a v8?
I have my v6 because I got a great deal on it, and insurance is much cheaper. I was just curious as to what other people's reasons were for going with a 6 cylinder?

I also got a great deal on my 2000 3.8 Camaro!
Plus after I install my modifications next week I will be able to beat some V8s! lol

it's pretty simple man the same reason you got your v6. also to tell people out there that think that v6 camaros aren't a waste of time like they say. some people i have a slowmaro but i just ignore them because soon things will be way different.
The only reason I got my V6 is because I knew I was going to do a motor swap eventually anyways... The 305's are just plain slow, and even if I came across a 5.7 that was in good shape, there is 50/50 chance that I would end up having to put a motor in it in a year or two anyways (I was looking specifically for a THIRD GENERATION Camaro, so the newest 5.7 I could find would've been at least 15 years old anyways)
I didn't want to spend the extra cash on something someone else already built either, I want MY build in MY car done MY way.
So when I spotted this really clean 92 RS with only two owners, I had to take it. Totally clean title, and the original owner bought it off the lot in 92 at the age of 55, then she passed it to her daughter in 2000, and her daughter was already 30 something. She had bought a 2002 RS, and was selling the 92 to get new rims for it.
They both babied it, and it's a california car.
Not a spot of rust, the body was perfect (I dinged it coming out of my driveway when I wasn't paying attention, I cry inside everytime I see the dent) and the interior had nothing wrong but a cracked dash pad and a slight rip in the drivers seat.
The factory clearcoat is going to crap, but I don't care, it'll be painted anyways.
I got it for 1000 bucks, and the little 3.1 in it runs strong as hell still.
I wish she would have sold it as soon as she got the other Camaro though, because I live right around the corner from her and I would've spotted it 8 months earlier... Instead she let the car sit in her driveway in full sun for all that time, hence the dashpad and worsening condition of the paint.
I think when I yank the 3.1 I'll overhaul the bottom end (just for peace of mind since it has 140K on it) and try to find a good deal on another V6 thirdgen with an automatic, a really nice body and interior, and a blown motor to put it in. (A blown motor is gonna drop the price for sure :D )
My wife has grown attatched to the thirdgen but she doesn't want to drive a stick daily cause she finds it tedious and since she doesn't care if it's fast I'd rather have her save us money at the pump. Not to mention 6 bangers seem to be a bit more reliable as a whole.
this doesn't belong in general tech...moving to lounge.
oh, and my .02 :D
I had a V6 because at the time, i didn't know much about cars and just wanted a camaro because it was rear wheel drive...and well, it was a camaro. Not to mention, got a killer deal on it! After about a month I got into modding it.
Totalled it about a year ago...and I REALLY wanted to try to land a V8...got a killer deal, and that's that!
