Hey all... I'm new to the forums so go easy on me LOL ;) I am looking to buy a firebird. There is a couple in my area but they all have v6's. I was wondering how well they acually perform. Obviously there not going to be like a V8. I am looking at one thats a 3.8, 5 speed, and looks to me like it has the Y87 package too. I would love to have a V8 with a six speed behind it but there just doesnt seem to be that many around. If I do get a V6 I will only get a 3.8. Everyone seems to frown apon the fact whenever you hear about a camaro or firebird with a V6

So heres the question. What I can expect with a V6, other than the better gas milage and less insurance than a V8?

the v6s are pretty sweet. i wanted an 8 also but go the 6 becuz of insurance.

alot of people frown on the 6's cuz they dont know anything about them. they just hear 6 cyl. they are pretty quick stock. we also have a pretty decent aftermarket. there is a pretty big difference between 3.4 and 3.8s too. alot of people dont knwo the differences. they are faster then the majority of cars on the street. i mean pretty much all of us hear have had our share of beating down on mustangs, hondas, ricers, and ricers.

I love my 3.8. It's really zippy, and it even has lowly 3:08 gears. It's not ungodly fast (yet) but I am definetly happy. If you like shifting, get the M5 it's the way to go. The y87 package is way cool. Best part is the -LS differential 3:42 gears. I have to get that put on mine, whereas you will already have it I have a supercharger getting rebuilt for it now though, I wanted a little more oomph. But I still would rather have the 3.8 then a 5.7- Id get it. We can cruise together sometime

I held a 5 Speed 99+ GT all the way till 80 while bone stock... After that he started putting lengths on me...

The V6's are great cars, they have plenty of potential, infact more potential power just N/A than I'll ever need... There's so many options and yet so little cash...

i was skeptical about the 3.8l camaros when i was looking for cars, but when i test drove it i was immediatley content with the performance. It saves a ton on gas and insurance isnt bad compared to z28s/ss/transam. Plus the way firebirds/camaros look is a definate plus compared to most cars on the road. i get a lot of attention in my v6

I always wanted a V8, but after I test drove my 2000 3.8 Camaro I thought it was fast enough plus alot cheaper priced, and best of all cheaper insurance beacause I'm a teenager.
Little tip, the 2000+ V6 F-bodys have a tubular exhaust manifold and they run somewhat stronger.

my dad passed away and i inherited money. so i know i had to wait to get it so i knew i wanted a car. ive always loved gm cars. so a vette was def out of the pic, same with z-28(insurance). then i stumble upon project virus(stefans car) and i was like holy **** thats it. i read his story about it. i was like thats it i want an m5 3.8 w/ t-tops. i looked and looked couldnt find one i like with what i wanted. i wanted a 96+ didnt really care about color but wanted purple.

found one that was everything i wanted, didnt need to test drive it, i knew what i was getting. but i did anyway, was so impessed with the smoothness of the power.

i bought it right then right there piad with certified check. had no regrets since.

the number one best thing about our cars. they have torque! only a pushrod engine can truly throw your *** back in the seat!

Thanks everyone for your impute...i think i'll have to test drive one and see how it is. I dont need, or want for that matter, a screaming fast car. I just want a rear wheel drive, that if need be, i can get on the trottle and have there be power there for me to take the bada**es at stop lights who think they can take anybody because they just got their liscense.LOL...and then see them in my rear view mirror
