take it to a dealer & find out what up. should be around $65 for a diagnostic.

just drive it. it will go away.

when i do something to the extent of a 180 or 360 in my car hte ABS INOP light comes on. just reset your computer i.e disconnect battery cables for 10 mins, or just drive around they will eventually go off.

just think of it as free line lock.

I am still wondering if a switch can be rigged to make it line lock.

your abs sensors on your front brakes may be bad. i know nothing about them really, but if they are bad, that would be the culprit.

hope you figure out the problem.

Do your brakes feel like *** or just the ABS INOP light and your ABS doesn't kick in?

Is your pedal Mushy? (fluid leak?)

Is your charging/electrical system working alright? (if your car is charging low, like a bad alternator it will cut your ABS to save power, and turn the ABS INOP light on)

All your brake lights work?(one out has been known to set the ABS INOP light off on some years)

Might be an ABS wheel sensor, I know its not uncommon for them to go out but I don't have much experience in it.

Maybe your ABS unit went bad, don't know how to diagnose that either though.

BTW I was the big tall guy you met last night at UC7.

                    I always wondered the same...

so you power brake it but use a switch to trip the ABS on the rear wheels releasing the brake pressure, so in essence only your front wheels are using the brakes.

yes when your ABS INOP light is on only your front brakes will work and they will lockup hence the inop ABS light.

the thing is is that if you had the switch i dont think it would go back to normal after a drag race or something because your computer has to read a sensor for a while( 30 for my ABS INOP light to go off) in order for the computer to actually use the readings.

The "ABS INOP" light in conjunction with a crap pedal feel, usually means that there is a mechanical problem with the braking system, not an electrical one.

Of course, the wheel sensors or pump could cause this, but 95% of the time, its mechanical.

Check the entire braking system for leaks or cracks, and then bleed the ABS pump and lines.

If no problems exist after that, then start checking the wheel sensors and electrical systems associated with the ABS system.

I would not just "drive around" with the ABS system haywire, I would remove it completely, or repair it. The former is dangerous.

I've yanked all of mine, and I've never been happier.

I've had 2, count them 2, sliding/braking accidents in my 15 year driving career.

BOTH were caused in large part by the ABS system malfunctioning.

Take it, and marry it for all I care. I will not have ABS on any vehicle I own ever again. Maybe if it was dramatically improved like the new electronic traction control system that's premiering this year, (yay motorweek) but that's about it.
