  • Please help...STUPID HEADLIGHTS!!

Please someone tell me what to do. My passenger side headlight on my 99 firebird is screwed up! When I went to turn them off a few minutes ago, they closed just fine...but the passenger side tried to keep closing. It started grinding the gears in the motor assembly...what causes this and how do I fix it?? I need help fast...I need the car driveable...

    thanks

same thing happened to mine... and it was the passenger side... if its still under warrenty, you need a new motor... a quick fix is turn the headlights on so the lamps come up.. take out the fueses for both. it should be 2 15amp fuses in the box closest to the windsheild... just take needle nose pliers and yank em out, and turn your headlights off.the headlamp doors will stay open till you can get tehm fixed. your headlights will work fine...

Common problem. The plastic teeth on the gear in your headlight motor have probably been broken. There is a round piece of plastic with teeth on it in the motor that is used to rotate your headlight up and down. To go up and down only half (180 degrees) of the plastic piece is used. So if teeth break on on half of it, you can still use the other half. There are two fixes for this:
      1. Unhook the headlight assembly from the motor and rotate it 180 degrees
      2. Open up the motor and rotate the plastic piece 180 degrees by hand.

The first works most of the time, but not for all people. This is the method I used.
The second is supposed to work all the time unless the motor is fried or you break it will attempting to take it apart :D

If you search you should be able to find both instructions, if not email me.

The link to the fix is, and has been, available in the Technical Database for a LONG time.
