Originally posted by kahouna23: best thing to do is route the wires EXACTLY like they come from the factory. I changed my wires and figured that if I routed them differently, it would get better protection from the heat. I was WRONG and out $80 for MSD wires. They burnt up after a week
My wires were factory stock, and my #6 wire sat on the exhaust manifold, didn't melt it instantly but put alot of heat on it.
My 1 foot heat sheathing thing, makes the wires stiff and straight. It runs them straing out away from the car then they loop up and above on top of the motor to the coils.

i didnt want to buy the heat shield stuff with my msd wires. i Mcgyvered some aluminum foil stuff and it works like a champ. i didnt like the 90 degree boot but i reused all the stock fasiners and plastic sheaths. i accedintly put 2 plugs on the wrong coils and i started up. i was amazed how deep the muffler sounded. i realized it was wrong and stupid. luckly nothing broke. overall i havent had the wired burned.

go to the autoparts store and buy wire seperators.
the electromagnetic field produced in one wire will cause an electric current in the wire immediately next to it causing preignition and detonation.
my first set of wires went 110,000miles and when i went of a dirt road the clip broke and left my #5 wire resting against the exhaust. burnt completely through. had to coast downhill to myhous8 miles away and start it of and drive on 5 cyl for 1/4mile or so. keep those little heatshields on there.
remember be creativeand effective when tying your wires away, just dont make it tacky. i gtg to class. just be smart and keep the melting things away from the things not supposed to be melted.
