It has always been on unless I have the code cleared, then it comes back on. I was told its nothing that will hurt the car, but I have replaced all the typical stuff (plugs, wires, fuel filter) I think it is an o2 sensor but I can't afford it right now.
But today I started my car and it was gone, I know the problem didn't fix itself but why would it just go off?

Could have been the gas cap, but like 98camaro3.8 said, what code was it?

If it was an O2 code, then yes expect that... The way it works is this...
Cold start the car doesn't read from the O2's but instead a pre-made fuel map. It follows this until the O2's become conductive at around 600 Degrees. If it doesn't read the sensor within a certain amout of time or reads an error within the sensor, it throws a code and gives you an SES and your car will run like crap if it's the two front sensors, I dunno about the rears. Well lets say you take your car out a few times and don't really go that far, you will start cold and if you get three cold consecutive starts, thats three times it doesn't have to read the O2 sensor, and thats three times the O2 sensor never reported an error to the PCM... bam... SES goes away until the exhaust gets hot enough for the PCM to read the O2 sensor when it will come back on...
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
