if our cars are rated at 200hp for the engine and we only get like 160rwhp, does a fwd car rated at 200hp only get 160fwhp? In theory would it be the same?

No, driveline loss.
AWD auto loses the most power through drive train
awd manual
RWD auto next
then rwd manual
then fwd auto
then fwd manaul
I have read that f body manual power lose is around 17%
auto f body can be as much as 21 %
AWD can be almost 38-40 %Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6

So you get torque converter and 3.42's to compensate...and 1 pc alum drive shaft
That's my plan anyways... ;)1997 silver Camaro RS
|T-Type Powered|
Looking for a local F-Body club in K/W, Ontario, Canada?

Subaru Rep Alex Fedorak said in the Sport Compact Car Magazine of Oct 1997: Subaru's AWD systems are effcient. He claims that a 2WD 2.5 RS (if it existed) would get no better fuel mileage than those w/AWD. Other than a slight weight penalty, the 2.5 RS suffers no acceleration penalty compared to it's FWD rivals.
I also own a 96 Legacy 2.5 GT. Subaru's have a connector that can disable AWD and lock in FWD. I haven't track tested it, but seat of the pants measurements tells me no difference.--Traded In--
1998 Navy Blue Metallic Camaro (RS)
3.8L V6 w/4L60E Auto
Sport Appearance Package
T-Tops - Loaded
_ _ _ _ __________________ _ _ _ _

--New--
2003 Victory Red S10 Xtreme w/Silver Stripes
2.2 L4 w/MW2 5 Speed Manual
LS Package

The 200hp is lost a every connection along the driveline, from the crank to the tranny gears, yoke, driveshaft (depending on how many pcs. it has), rear, axles, even to the lugnuts of the wheel, until the tire. By that time you've lost about 40hp. Its different for FWD cars because there is no "driveline", especially a driveshaft, its all right there under the hood.1995 Pontiac Firebird
