• 166,000 miles, what should I do?

I just purchased a 94 Camaro last week with 166,000 miles. What do you guys think I should do, Run it with some type of engine cleaner or get the engine rebuilt or anything else you can suggest. I just had the oil changed today and put in Z-MAX engine formula. I'm going to put in Z-MAX for the fuel tomorrow. How much would it cost to get the engine rebuilt on a 3.4 V6? Thanx. Teele.

you definately shoudl get a rebuild...and sorry but i have no clue how much it would cost, my guess with the shop pulling the engine out, rebuilding it and putting it back in around 2500-3500, not sure though...just a guess

Hey now.... alot of us 3.4 owners have high mileage. I personally have 127,000 miles that I put on the car myself. Sure she's a little tired... but she still runs good. Never been in the motor!!! I've done some bolt-on mods, but never pulled the valve covers off, never had any major engine part off the car.

So... Unless you feel you need it, I would enjoy it for the summer. In the winter if you put the car up, then think about the rebuild.

Why buy it if you can't enjoy it?? :D

At the cost it seems to take to rebuild the 3.4 why not take a step up to the 3.8? You can get them pretty cheap from various online or local salvage yards. Theres allways the LT1 option too, though that's a bit more expensive. Examine your options before making any big decision and spending thousands of dollars. Just take care of your car for now and keep an eye out for anything that might go wrong until you make a decision. Just don't rush into things and really think about what it is you want out of the car. Good luck.

Just to let you know, that z-max stuff is crap. I think the govt was or is suing them for false advertising cuz their stuff doesnt do anything but make them money.

Run it till it dies. You never know, it might last to about 200,000 miles and then some.

Check out the advanced forum before you make any rebuild decisions. There's some exciting stuff happening with 3.4s.
