3.8 coils

do MSD coils and coil interface modules help our 3.8s all that much? Im more or less just looking for a more complete burn to get more out of the gas Im burning. If it influences your decision/reply at all, I plan on a couple of upgrades:

Whisper Motorsports Whisper Lid and Ram Air box
Pacesetter Headers
Flowmaster Exhaust

I'm not going to do the DIS-4 box because everything I've read about it has been telling em it's only need it for nitrous or forced induction.

wires and plugs would really be the only things you need to upgrade from stock..other than that our ignition systems are pretty damn good..they're used/needed more on the 3.4s [img]smile.gif[/img]

the coils and modules couldnt hurt tho right? Hotter spark can only improve combustion....... right?

As far as plugs and wires, what's the preferred kind for the 3.8s

People seem to like NGK and AC plugs
Wires-- well, people do all different things; I run AC's.

Call me boring, but unless you're modded pretty highly, I don't think there's any real improvement to be had in this area over the stock setup. I mean, if the combustion process isn't damn near perfect, gas mileage would suffer, plugs would foul easily, and you'd get detonation/preignition, right? None of those things happen on a 3.8 in good tune.

I've heard 100 times more stories about things getting screwed up by using esoteric plugs and wires [and coils] than I've heard about them doing anything to actually improve performance over a correctly tuned engine in the first place.

If you're going to replace them I go to the MSD upgrade because like you said it can only do you good. But if you plan on doing it just for the hell of it I wouldn't bother. My coils are starting to go so I'm going to invest in MSD coils soon. [img]smile.gif[/img]

if you guys are really looking for coils i have a set of MSD ones..i sold them to someone on fbody.com ..they said they made their car misfire a lot so they're returning them..but the thought over there is that they wired the plug wires wrong because when they put the stock coils back on they had the same problem..$40 for all 3 in (as far as i know) excellent condition..thats the way they left me..email me at doering18@yahoo.com if you're interested [img]smile.gif[/img] ..otherwise they just go to waste

1dangerousV6, im not tryin to break up your sale but those MSD coils that i bought from you are no good, when i send them back to you, try them on your car, you said you bought them from some guy who said they worked but never tried them on your car. It would suck for you and the next person who buys them, and finds out they don't work again. As far as my wires being hooked up correctly, i checked them many times and had someone else check them and they were all on rite, when i put my old coils back on they worked fine, but when i took it out for a drive after 10 minutes of driving fine i started having misfires and my SES light was flashing. So i bought three new coil packs from autozone and no more problems, car runs great again. My old coil packs were probably on their way out anyway. Im not tryin to call you a liar or anything like that cuz you were really helpful and always replied back quickly to my emails, but the guy you bought the coil packs from is a different story.

ohhhhh..i thought when you put your stock coils back on you still had the same problem..like..right away..eh..i'll probably just chuck em then..i didnt realize you were BirdOnFire [img]graemlins/wavey.gif[/img]
