75psi too much oil pressure?

Basically little chilly out today, maybe 50 degrees, and when I start my car up cold my oil pressure twice today has chilled at around 70-75ish psi, the guage itself goes up to 80psi. The sensor is only a month or so old. Once the car warms up a little bit, the oil pressure levels off a little bit. 40-50ish.

Think its getting a little too high?

btw oil level is good checke it 2 days ago.

when its cold that oils mighty thick...so I would assume its ok as long as it drops back down when the oil warms up

Speaking of oil pressures...
What are your pressures?
Usually mine are like, 45 when I first start, then it starts getting warmer and sits at 40 at idle, like 40-50 when I'm on the gas, then it thins out a little more and its like 25 at idle, 40 on the gas.

on the 3.8 the gauge goes from 0 to 60 in the middle to 120 on the end. I' usually (depending on my car's mood) either slightly above 60 or below. Sometimes it'll dip under 60, give it the gas, and it'll go back up. Sometimes it'll hover betwen 60 and 120 which kinda scares me but after a few minutes it drops to 60 again.

I live in a much cooler climate, and I have never been at 75 PSI. Maybe 60 max, but not 75 PSI when I first start it up.

I wouldn't be worried, since it did come down back to normal. All I am saying is that I have never been that high up in CT winters.

60 is where the pump is set at for our cars. My oil pressure does jump way up when I start my car in the cold, but I don't really know how high though, but I wouldn't be that affraid.

My car idles at 57-58, and then it's at 64-65 when on the gas.

i wouldnt put much faith in the numbers printed on the oil pressure gauge. the behavior sounds right. higher pressure when cold and less once it gets warm. i would not be concerned.

people in CT probably get run 5w30. you probably have 10w30 (how cold does it ever get in fl?) which would explain your slightly higher pressure reading when cold.

I run 85 when the car is warming up. 78 criusing @ 60MPH and 43 @ idle. It's 75 degrees here. I use 5w-30. [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img]
