  • new news on misfire, need help

my car was good for a week and then decided to start misfireing at an autoparts store(go figure) i scanned it with a good scanner and got a bunch of readings.

my timing when it was running bad was ranging fron -18 at idle and -34 ahd 3300 rpms. tell me if something is wrong with that.

    oxy sensor 1 bank 1 = .060V - .770 V
    short term fuel trim 0%

    oxy sensor 2 bank 1 = .390V - .915 V
short term fuel trim not supported

    WHAT DOES NOT SUPPORTED MEAN

    oxy sensor 3 bank 1 = .410V - .870 V
short term fuel trim not supported

    oxy sensor 1 Bank 2 = .030V - .900 V
    short term fuel trim 0%

my intake temp was 100* and with a 5.6 k resistor it read 50* F just an FYI

my coolant temp was 215*F and it is usually at that half way on the guage when idling.

after a ten minutes of random revs it went away. i have a light stumble in my idle but im sure its because all the times misfiring screwed up my plugs.

i am going ot get a timing light from a friend and wait till it acts crappy again. then i will put the light sensor on each wire to see if one certain wire isnt getting spark. get 6 timing lights and you can diagnose your whole ignition. take hints people build something with the timing lights if you have a bunch.

anyone with proper experience please help with a diagnosis. im sure an o2 sensor or two is messed up, remember that i have o2 sims.

hope someone can help with this,

not suported just means that it's a cheep scanner. Everything else looks "ok" not being able to see a live data stream. The timing light trick down't really tell you much other then if a cyl is sparking.. What I like to do (although it's slightly invasive) is to take a test light hooked to ground, start the car and then one by one poke the light probe through the plug wire boot untill it touches the coil tower and listen for an RPM drop. the cyl or cyls that either do not drop or drop the least are the ones that are missing.. to me it sounds like an ign fault

      ICM?

the ignitions on these cars arent the greatest, they are ok, but seem to always have problems.

The O2 2 & 3 are the rear O2's.... Hence the no reading for the fuel trim.

What have you replaced so far?

nothing really. i am going to school full time and paying for an apartment, fuel, food, and other related expenses so im trying to not pay money for what "might" be wrong. i am going to get new plugs soon though as im sure mine are fouled from the misfires. i dont want to replace them till i get the occasional hard misfire taken care of since it would be a waste if those got fouled too.

            don't worry about 2 and 3

but sensor 2 bank 1 is running rich, i think that is the driver side...... i'm not 100% on the side though
if your not getting any missfires now?

missfireing for that little time will not not foul your plugs

check your wires and all connections make sure the wires are not burnt and make sure they are on the plug like they are suppose to be

it could be your ICM but i would only do that as a last resort..... they cost about $200 new....

also if you have a good scaner, what i do is when its misfiring shut of one fuel injector at a time if it runs worse it not that one... if it runs about the same you found the problem child... you can also do this buy unpling your fuel injectors but its a little harder to do that way.

im starting to think my problem is my fuel filter or my fuel pump. i have ran out of gas several times and was told this is very bad for your fuel pump. i will change my fuel filter spring break and see what happens.

how much psi(no guesses please) does my fuel pump need to put out.

              thanks
