  • QUICK! I broke the Throttle body gasket

I took off my TB for no better reason than to see how it works. I ripped the gasket while removing it. (Doh!)

Can I use RTV or gasket sealer to re install it or must I buy a whole new gasket?

Also, how do you block off the coolant to the TB? It seems pretty pointless to have hot coolant flowing into it. Unless its for emmissions reasons.

I personally, as someone who's engine drank a quart of coolant, would get a NEW gasket. But what the **** do I know.

lol...ya I wouldnt use rtv on your TB....and the only reason coolant runs through your TB which is a good thing if you live in cold climates.....it doesnt let the TB get stuck in one position....potentially causing an accident....or you'd be stuck idleing ;)

Go to autozone and get a sheet of gasket paper... your gonna have to cut out a gasket, i did tonight, after i port and polished mine and removed the pillar cause mine broke too... and then use some gasket seal in a tube to stick the gasket on and everything

The dealer has your gaskets for about $5 each. Usually takes about 3 days to order and come in if they don't already have them in stock.

Does the gasket even deal with coolatn channels on 3.8Ls?

Oddly enough I have removed my TB maybe 10 times, its ripped, half on upper intake, half on TB. Doesn't leake when I tighten the bolts down, original with 130k.

HOw did your car swallow a quart of coolant?

              Port and Polish huh?....

How did you do that? did you do it yourself in your garage or was it done professionally?

I'll get some gasket paper tonite.

You can buy a TB gasket from a dealership. I think you would be better off buying one then making it yourself.
These are some pictures from my TB spacer install

The coolant comes out of the intake manifold from the two holes outlined by leftover gasket in this pic

Its been suggested that you can fill in the coolant channel in the TB with JB Weld if you'd like to keep coolant out of the TB
