  • Big Problem!!!! PLease help

I took out my center console today and i cut the wires going into the cigarette lighter thinking that i dont need the lighter ever so there just useless wires. After i cut the wires i realized that the horn runs on the same wires and now my horn doesnt work. How can i fix this so i can get my horn working again????

tape the two ends of the wires that you cut back together. otherwise, rewire it or have the dealership do it for you.

Could very well be. Did you cut the wires while the battery was still connected? If so then the wire cutters connected the + and - and blew the fuse.

Thanks bu-bye, you just relieved me somewhat, i did cut the wire while the battery was connected. Ill take a ride to the auto store tomorrow morning when i wake up and get a new fuse. Hopefully that was the problem.
              Thanks

Your silly! Why did'nt you just leave it alone rather then cutting the wires. there was no harm for them being there. But it sounds like something I would do!!

You shouldn't need the wires connected to the lighter to run the horn. When you don't have the lighter pushed in, the circuit is open; just like the open circuit you have after cutting the wires. The two systems may operate off the same fuse however, so like the others said, you probably blew the fuse, either by shorting when cutting, or if the + wire came in contact with the car when you buried it under the console/carpet. Make sure the +wire is terminated with tape, of something similar, to prevent the short from happening again.

Thanks again everyone for your help! Since i never use the cigarette lighter im just gonna wrap the end of the wires in electrical tape and put in a new fuse.
When i change the fuse i just pull the old one out with needle nose pliars and put in a new one,,right?
Oh yea, if i ever want to make my cigarette lighter work again, does pep boys sell replacement wire?

You could have just disconnected the wiring connector from the back of the cigarette lighter cylinder...seems like it would have been easier.
