got 85k on the car, and just switched to mobil 1 oil and filter today, drove it around put 10-20 miles on it and i dont see anything leaking. something i didnt expect was now when i gas it, it sounds alot meaner and deeper.
should i take it easy for a while or should i do the opposite. also, how long should i wait to change again, would 5k be too soon?
Although you're probably tired of my advice by now--
Drive it the way you always do; keep an eye on the oil level at each fill-up [looking for leakage]. If you're easy on the car, I wouldn't bat an eyelash at keeping it in for 7,500 miles, because you certainly have the oil and the filter to do it. I change mine every 5,000 because occasionally I drive it REALLY hard [drag strip] and I use a slightly cheaper AC filter.
In normal driving [not like 80% city or WOT all the time], I would keep it in 7,500 miles or when the "oil change" light tells you to change it, whichever comes first. You know how to reset the oil change indicator, right?

I had 130K on my old 3.4L when I switched to synthetic and drove it hard w/ no leaks. You should be ok. and w/ synthetic I changed it every 5000 miles. some may say that's too soon, but I think it's better to do it sooner than let it run longer ;)
If it's the same as my 2000, with the key in the run position, hold the trip meter button for 10-12 seconds until the "change oil" light blinks a couple of times.

It will get dirty fast becasue you just started useing it.

LOL,your mind is playing tricks on you dude. </font>
lol im not kidding though, just a little when i give it a WOT.. this is my first change since i bought the car 2 months ago, and the filter looked so old i had to stab it and turn it with a screwdriver. but seriously, it used to get a really high whining pitch before i changed it, now its not there.
my question is, what should the oil pressure be at? mines been around 70-75 while driving and 65 at stoplights. its higher than it was before i changed. i thought synthetic was supposed to make it lower, could something be wrong?
Whoever told you synthetic will make the pressure reading lower is full of it.
Your pressure readings sound about right to me. On my gauge, it will touch 60psi with the engine idling and hot. It will reach about 80psi with the engine not idling and cold.
Not that our oil pressure gauges are really accurate, but having slightly higher pressure readings after an oil change is a typical thing, as old oil sometimes loses its viscosity ["shearing down"].

I use synthetic and I just change the oil when the oil change light comes on (same thing when I didn't use synthetic). GM swears by that thing so that is good enough for me.
