  • what is that little elbow??

ok, i have been chasing down this slow coolant leak for 6 months and i finallhy found it. problem is, i dont know what the little black plastic elbow is to get a new one. It is located on the front of the motor just above the water pump and just below the upper intake. Anyone know what it is called, and what the heck it is for?? Thanks for any help.

just go down to the autoparts and physically show them what part is leaking even if you have to drag them out there to show them and tell them I need this part.

yeah I was gonna do that but I am afraid to take it off, it looks pretty fragile. Knowing my luck, I will break it and they will have to order it and it will be back ordered and so on and so forth. Nah I am just complaining. I was really just curious as to what it is for. It seems to serve no purpose at all.

I think it is called something like a heater hose fitting. Thats my best bet, I dont have 3.8, so I cant picture what your talking about. Good luck. ;)

not a heater hose fitting, those are on the pass side of motor. this plastic elbow is not open on the end. It just sticks out towards the drivers side in a little cubby hole above the water pump and goes to nothing that i can see.

your probably talking about the placstic coolant hoses that are atached to the tentioner assembly. if so they are a dealer only part. They are cheep tho

i got it for 3.99 at a local autoparts store, it was a part that was on the shelf, not behind the counter. it is not a dealer only part. I cant remember the exact name of it, it is a heater something. and yes it is fragile, i busted mine up even more when i took it off.

maybe I'll just JB Weld it and be done with it. You cant see it so it wont look ghetto at least. doubt it would hold long though. On a side note, I had the wonderfull dexcool sludge thing goin on, I have since changed to prestone. any ideas on how to get all the sludge out of the system?? good cleaner etc?
