  • car is running funny... dont know why. please help!

Ok, so I got in my car today and it started up and idled fine... drove fine to my class and parked it. Then when I got back in it to drive back to my dorm, it started to act goofy.

I turned onto a road and shifted into second, and instead of it pulling, it bogged down and the note from the exhaust didn't sound right. Instead of a smooth flow of exhaust, it was more like a 'ba ba ba ba ba'... which is the best way I can explain it. I thought it may have had something to do with having the air on, which was also working fine, so I turned it off and it seemed to quit. Then after I got it up to about 4k rpms, it just fell on its face and bogged down again and was making the same noise. It kept doing it until I parked it again. Then I let it sit and idle, and it did so fine, no problems at all. What the hell is wrong with my car!? Any suggestions?

Does it happen when you try to give it too much gas? Not really like flooring it, but when you need to speed up it will start ba ba ba ba ing. Cuz my car started doing the same thing. It feels like a misfire. But you can hear it in the exhaust note to like your saying.

Coil packs. Try pulling the wires individually from the coils and then starting the car. Have somebody watch to see if they arc or not. You can find out which coil pack is bad like that. Though, missfires have many causes, this might be yours. Give it a try. Just don't try to take the wires off with the car running.

Don't do it! You'll get shoked by 40,000 volts. Plus, even if you do it with special equipment, it will not give accurate results on coil perfomance. Also you might damage the coil or other ignition components.

First thing first: goto autozone, find out which cylinder, then plug and wires, then coil.

I said, don't do it while the car is running. Take the wires off, THEN start it, you'll be able to hear immediately if they arc over or not. I just recently had the same exact symptoms. Got SES, and found out I had a cylinder 5 missfire. New coil, fized it right up. A week later (now) the car is doing it again, replaced the front coil (cylinder 6 missfire). Car is running fine again, but I bought the 3rd pack, just in case.
