i was out driving today when suddenly it sounded like air was leaking from my tire. I Got out to see what it was and nothin was coming out of my tire so i continued on home. when i got home i totally lost steering. I tried to turn the wheel and only the left one would turn..the right one stayed stationary. It looks as though the tie rod isn't connected, how can that just happen? wut do i need to do???i really dont wanna have it towed and crap. has this happened to anyone?? need advice its really wierd that it was making that hissing sound ....wuts up with this?!?

"It looks as though the tie rod isn't connected"
So do you know for sure if it is or isn't connected?
Have you looked in your power steering fluid reservoir?
If the tie rod is still connected, and the fluid is empty, there is a leak in the power steering system.
If the tie rod is still connected, and the fluid is full, there might be something wrong internally in the rack and pinion.
If the tie rod is disconnected, and the fluid is full, ya got a broken tie rod. Could be from hard cornering on a bad tie rod.
You're lucky to have made it home. The power steering system and or tie rods arn't hard to replace your self.\'96 Camaro Convertible

Where is it disconnected? From the spindle (your wheel bolts to this) or from the steering rack (located in front of your engine). Some *** mechanic might have left out a cotter pin, causing your castle nut to work loose, and your outer tie rod to come off ... piece of cake fix. Don't drive without getting it taken care of, though.
