What would cause this? The ping goes away if I use 89, but is quite distinct when I use 87. Its not bad gas, because it doesn't matter which gas station I go to.

Seafoam it. You have cabon buildup, which causes increased compression in cylinders, which leads to detonation on lower octane fuel.
Seafoam it and start putting 87 back in and see what happens.Comment
