For the past few months my car has been having trouble starting right away. I would have to turn the key a few times before it would start or put the key in the ignition, watch the voltage meter rise and then try to start her. I thought I needed a new battery, alternator or starter. Wasn't sure. The battery tested good and the alternator is only two years old. Now for the past few days I would turn the key and it would sound like it was going to start but as soon as I let go of the key the car would die. It would only start if I gave it some gas while turning the key. Also, after starting it lately, it would start to surge or rev up like I was giving it gas and the voltage meter would go from left to right. I think I waited too long to fix my problem and now I may have more than one. Is there anyway it could be related to the fuel pump? Please help me. Thanks in advance.

im not too sure what your problem is but it might be the fuel pump. im mainly posting to say that in your profile. the link to your car domain page needs to read http://www.cardomain.com/id/rallysportchic97

is sound like a fuel issue,
you need to test the fuel PSI when the key is on and the pump primes.
i could be a sensor but i don't think it is.
possible cause's
1: you need a ne fuel filter
2: your FPR is bad and needs replaced
3: your fuel pump is bad.
if you havn't changed you fuel filter . or don't know if its ever been changed.i would try that first if thats don't fix it
buy a fuel PSI gauge and test that bofore doing anything more.
also do you have any codes? have you car scaned at auto zonewww.turbov6camaro.com

I'm taking it to autozone today and getting several things tested. I need to find out whats going on. Hopefully, its the fuel filter and nothing more expensive. Thanks. If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know.<a href=\"http://photobucket.com/albums/c368/rallysportchic97/\" target=\"_blank\">http://photobucket.com/albums/c368/rallysportchic97/</a>

if the filter is that cloged to cause a hard start then it's probably damadged the pump. weather or not you get any answers fro autozone (BTW don't listen to a thing they tell you) replace the filter. when you get it off and drian it look at the direction of the flow and then in that same direction use your mouth to blow through it.. Tell me how hard it was. after that replacement get the fuel pressure gauge from autozone and hook it up to the fuel rail. Prime the key 4 or 5 times and then write down what the pressure reads. Then don't touch anything for 5 mins and tell me what teh pressure reads after that 5.

TRUST ME ON THIS ONE. I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ABOUT A YEAR AGO. I have a 98 Camaro...........exact same problem
My fuel-pressure regulator wasn't working properly. No mechanic I took it to could diagnose it. My husband bought the $40 part and spent like 4 hours with his buddy putting it in. Seriously don't waste your time with other things. Just fix the regulator.Soon to be Mommy!<br />2005 Honda Pilot EX-L

Why fix a regulator if it;s not bad? for that matter why change anything without testing it first? fuel filters should be changed every year anyway so thats not gona hurt. They are also cheep. And every fuel injected car owner should ahve a fuel pressure gauge. They are the single most important peice of test equipment that you can ever have. you can test the entire fuel system with it all the way from pump to injectors.
and any shop that doesn't have a mecanic that can read and use a fuel pressure gauge should be droped off the edge of the world.1996 Silver camaro Z28. I forgot to mention that I had the fuel filter replaced 3 months ago. So I'm pretty sure its not that. I guess I will buy a fuel pressure gauge and figure out whats going on. The car is also starting to overheat again. I guess I've got some work to do on her!<a href=\"http://photobucket.com/albums/c368/rallysportchic97/\" target=\"_blank\">http://photobucket.com/albums/c368/rallysportchic97/</a>

your overheating can even be caused by running very lean from lack of fuel.. or it could be seperate. The fact that you say you have to "prime" the key several times direction points to a fuel dilivery issue. if you do not prime the key the motor will just crank for a long time correct? I would still really check for codes first. if you have a "fuel system lean code" that would suport the bad pump theory. When ytou pick up your gauge get a scan and plug your ears when they try and sell you XXX product for the XXX code that they pulled1996 Silver camaro Z28. Well I've decided to just take it to my mechanic in Oklahoma. I was trying to go to lunch the other day and she wouldnt even try to turn! It was like the starter went out. 30 minutes later it started right up. It's confusing. I really dont have the time to figure out everthing thats wrong and try to fix it myself. So my trip to Oklahoma will be next week and I plan to get it all fixed along with welding on some exhaust tips to fill those empty holes in my new Vizage kit, but thats a different topic! ;p<a href=\"http://photobucket.com/albums/c368/rallysportchic97/\" target=\"_blank\">http://photobucket.com/albums/c368/rallysportchic97/</a>

No, it didn't make any sound at all. Kind of like the car was dead and there was no power except there was power cuz the radio and windows still worked. It has done that twice now. All the other times I have to give it few tries to start or give it gas before it starts.<a href=\"http://photobucket.com/albums/c368/rallysportchic97/\" target=\"_blank\">http://photobucket.com/albums/c368/rallysportchic97/</a>
