  • Getting my HPP3 tomorrow...

    For all of you that have it, what kind of gains can i expect, am i gonna like it is it worth the money, and i'm going to the track this friday, what kind of improvement can i expect??? Thanx [img]smile.gif[/img]

    Don't expect to plug it in and be blown away by it. The best aspect to the Programmer is the ability to change your transmission shift points, and top end speed limiter. The power gains are respectable, 12 HP and 19 ft.lbs. of torque, but that's not really enough that you could tell a difference in everyday driving.

    When you take it to the track, make one run with the programmer, then uninstall it and run stock. Post the E.T. difference on here.

        The gross HP gains are in the area of 5% plus or minus a little. In terms of enhanced performance what the HPP3 does is maximize the timing curve. If you want max from the HPP3 select the 93 Octane version of the program. Of course, be sure you run 93 octane or above fuel. Since you have a manual trans you will not benefit from reprograming the shift points. Other pluses though, are changing the speed limiter, compensating for non-stock tires and rear-end, and setting the cooling fans on/off temperatures.

          Where did you purchase your HPP3 from?

            Directly from Hypertech. They haven't released it yet to the general public. They are Beta Tests. The price is $450. I was told that they could released them tomorrow, or next year - so I decided not to wait and went ahead and ordered directly from them.

                Yeah i got it in this morning, and i installed it... Seems ok, can notice alittle more power but nothing to brag about, i'm just glad i dont have the damn speed and rev limiters anymore...

                  I've noticed an .5 - 1.0 MPG increase in the time that I've owned my HPP3. Also, when you set the fan temps lower, don't be fooled by the temp gauge in the cluster.... it's way off.

                      although the price on this is outrageous (you can get a craftsman 1-channel auto-ranging oscilloscope for like $299, for comparison...) i think the ability to change cooling fan activation temps is pretty cool. now with a 180 or 160 stat you dont need a manual switch to control fan operation to keep temps low in traffic. the hpp will program pcm to turn on the fans at lower temp for you...

                      theoretically, autotap and autoxray could come up with flash software that would do the same thing if they wanted to. i'm sure there are licensing issues and all kinds of legal stuff involved which may be why hypertech hasn't really "released" these yet...

                      btw magnus how are you coming with figuring out the PCM project you were working on???

                        Does the HPP3 have to stay plugged in once you program it, or do you just have it hooked up to make changes? Also, does anyone know if HPP3s are set up specifically for LS1s and L36s, or are they programmed to handle any F-Body?

                          No, just program and pull. HPP3s are engine specific. That is by year, size, and engine management system.
