Battery "tie down" won't hold new battery down

I got a new battery today (right size has the little lip at the bottom and all that) but the little black hold down thing won't secure it.

It's a Deka Battery (775MF)

Anyone know the problem?

Torrow at work I will get a good ratchet from the shop and try tightening it more. If that doesnt work I will have to buy a new tie down I guess.

^^Yep, what he said. Mine broke too, so I used a large black wire-tie to secure the battery to the tray. Ghetto...yes, but it works.

Possible the worst design EVER by GM...

Mine was broke on my 94 when I got it... and on my 2k, I said to myself that I would be very very very verycareful not to break it. I went autocrossing one month, went again the next month and it was broken, not even sure if I even opened the hood in that 1 month period. :mad:

Well since there was no problem with the old battery like that I guess I'll just leave it for now.

mine is broke too it was broke when i bought the car when yalls was broke did it make a rattling noise? IF not then i guess i got other problems. that is what i hate about my car it makes too much NOISEEEEEEE. too many rackets

I haven't noticed it making any noise...but then agian after my old car I have learned how to ignore all those little sounds.

strategically place a bungy cord in there. my works and even passes spec at the racetrack because it is in so tight.

Honestly I don't see any, the battery is kinda jammed in there pretty tight.

BUT you will run into problems if you try and race with it, my drag strip doesn't pop my hood just lets me through since I have a late model car but at autocrossing they won't let me go without it secure. Last time I found out I wedged a roll of electrical tape between the back of the headlight and the battery, then strapped it down with a camera case strap and a sports bag strap.

I am currently looking for a not so ghetto replacement.

Mine was broken when I got the car, all I did when I put my Optima battery in was I took a thick piece of hard rubber and put it between the battery and the frame so it cant jiggle around, works like a charm!

Maybe when I change out my coolant again I'll change the tray out with a new one, I'm sure they sell the tray and coolant overflow as one piece, damn GM… :mad:

yeah worked with my roll of electrical tape too problem is most tech places "frown" on these types of things [img]smile.gif[/img]

Yup, one piece tray/overflow resevoir. Cost me $75 to have it replaced.
