• SES Code 5th Cylinder Misfire

so, service engine light came on today, being a little scared I went to autozone and they checked it out. The code on the little machine he had said P305, and it said "5th cylinder misfire".

I don't know how to approach this?

I have a friend who has a later model grand am gt, and his said a "4th cylinder misfire" so he replaced the 4th cylinder plug, wires and coils. And I guess I'm scared about what to do. Also, when the car starts, it seems to have a high sparky noise, i dunno if that means anything, maybe it's a knocking noise, i do not know. :( please hellllllp!

once again our fearless leader has helped another one

yeah, you shouldn't have a problem with warranty work.

yeah but I guess my warranty is really stingy, like they might not cover diagnostics and such. Plus they are being a ***** cuz I bought my car at a ford dealership, and they're tell me to go to a chevy dealer to use my warranty!
Man, what a waste of money

Go to a Chevy dealership for the warrenty. It dosent matter where you bought the car, the warrenty is with GM. GM pays the dealership for the work on warrenty.

i had a similar problem...my spark plug wire was grounding itself on the exhaust manifold. you may just need to put new wires in. every person i know personally who drives a v6 camaro have had this problem with the stock wires. mine read misfire too...and it was covered by carmax warranty.

Most likely it's the wire and possibly the plug. If it was a coil it would be missfiring on 2 cylinders. Not just one.

Read the warranty again, & go to dealership where bought for more explanation. I bought my 99GP from a chrysler place & got an extended warranty. What happens is that I let the Moopar peeps know something is up, they log it & say ok, we'll tow it (if need be) to Poncho dealership for warranty work. when it's done, I pay my deductable & Mopar picks up the balance. I went through this w/the starter on the GP, & was glad I had the waranty

i asked and they said it wasn't covered by the warranty because the problem relates to the ignition system, not the powertrain :( . Here's what happened, a friend of mine has the little device that plugs under the dash, and he got the code. Well, he erased the code and it hasn't come back!! It's been about 100 miles and it's gone. What does this mean?

Also it seems as if the car smells a little hotter. I don't know if it comes from that, or the fact that I have a pinion seal leak that I need to get fixed but I'm too lazy!

It sounds like the problem is fixed.
