Are there any small mods I can do to my '98 3.8L v6 to make it run a bit faster and smoother. Hopefully to keep up with at least older 350's like in 3rd gen Camaro's, or Monte Carlo's.

I want to save for a Z28 though. But so far I got Whisper Intake Lid, and SS Takeoff Exhaust. Any performance parts I can add easily? I've seen Raised Airboxs in most people's signatures, how are they?

Im just a 17 year old, got my Camaro as my first car when I was 16. Pretty sweet, seeing how everyone else at my high school either drive Mustang GT's their parents bought them, 3rd gen 305's or Honda ricers. I was the only F-body at my school.

I was thinking bout gettin a new grill for the front of my car though, cause mine's kinda beat up bad. Im not looking for a supercharger or NOS, just like maybe performance parts maybe. Thanks.

I wouldn't get a new grill. Just yank the old one off. Looks much better to me.

well what you can do is do the free ram air thing that they have on this website and maybe advance the timing and cold air intake (trust me when i say that a slp cai and like 20hp it really works.)and maybe some gears if you dont have a 3.42.

How do you change it to the 3.42 gears? I assume threw the computer, like one that you have to hook up to your harddrive in the car. My brother has something for his LT1 in his 98'Camaro.

To change gears you would have to buy new gears. It's a hardware thing more than computer. You have to have your computer reprogrammed to accept the new gears and a lot of other stuff. Speedometer I think has to be fixed to work with it too. There may be some other things involved but just getting the things installed is costly. If your looking for a few cheap easy mods I don't think gears are the way to go. Also, I heard something about raised airbox not being effective for someone who has a whisper lid. You may want to search about it, it's been talked about a lot before as have the gears. Just read the technical database and you should see the thing about gears in there. I would suggest you get a shift-kit like the one TransGo makes, assuming you drive an automatic.

            1. get flowmasters or some other muffler, catbacks still a bit much for me...

            2. SLP CAI and whisperlid with holley filter

3.take off the front grill, i have done it too, u will see pics when the sun comes up here, so i can take the pics...

4.when u get another 400 bux or so, get the 3.42s, LSD (limited slip differental) and the jetscu 2000

i have done 1 and half of 2, and 3, now its time to do 4

I would do the following things and the best part is they are all FREE!!!!

1)Remove your Mass Air Flow Sensor Screen, it will allow your engine to suck 180 more cubic feet per minute of air.

              2)Free Ram Air Mod (WWW.installuniversity.com)

              3)K&N Filter

4)Custome Cold Air Intake (Not really cold)

If you got any questions, just email me and I'll be able to send you some pics if you need them.

If you do those mods I think you will see a difference, I did

                Oh yeah one more thing,

Don't buy a whisper lid, you can do the same thing to your lid for free. Just take off the fins and sand them down and POOF!!! you have a free whisper lid

the fins on the air box

Open your hood to your car, open your air box, and take off the lid, on the top-inside of the lid there should be some fins. Just take a pair of pliars and pull them off as much as you can. After your done pulling them off, get some sand paper or what ever you think will work and sand them down until the top-inside part of the lid is really smooth.

Thats how you do it ;) ;)

Yup, my neighbor is a mechanic that rebuilds salvage titles. So a flooded out 98' V6 came along, he got it for cheap at an auction, the 3.8l motor was dead, and just at the same time, a damaged from behind 94 LT1 Firebird Formula came in, and my neighbor swapped it out so it was originaly a V6, but now has a LT1 in it. Its no LS1, but still packs a punch, around some 300+HP with some mods. Very nice car, very loud too!

My car was a salvage too, check my signatur for the before picture. My brother had this car before me and he got it salvaged, bought it and then sold to me when he got his 98'LT1.
