  • Car won't start

Here is the list of things I was doing.

I changed the plug wires, also fixed the fog light that was out(took it off the car then re attached the light) I started the car once to see if the fog light was fixed(it worked), turned the car off, then a few monments later tried to turn the car back on and nothing, it won't turn over. I have all my accessory items(locks, windows, radio), It was also on rhino ramps. I checked all the fuses, checked all connections to the started, alternator, distribution block. A friend of mine pushed it off the ramps and I tried to slam the shifter into park from neutral. The car kept backing up in drive. MY main concern right now is the car starting--or not starting as it were. Any ideas what to check or look at before I pay a fortune for a mechanic to look at it.

Battery? Check it with a meter to see if it's good.

        Questions for you:

Do the headlights work and are they bright? Does anything happen when you try to start it (clicks, noises, dimming lights, etc)? Have you tried to start it in Park and Neutral?

If you have bright lights and everything electrical works and you get no noises or anything when you try to start it, my first guess would be the ingnition switch itself or possibly the neutral safety switch. You could try jumpering a hot wire to the solenoid to see if the motor turns over. If it does, that would eliminate the starter and solenoid as problems. Do it with the car in Park and the ignition key off the first time. Then try turning the ignition key to On and jumpering. If the car starts, that would really lead me to believe it is switch related.

From this, it sounds like you might have done something to the neutral/park safety switch. If it was starting fine before.

Try starting it in neutral. Try firmly pressing it up into park again. Try pressing the shifter further up into park while trying to start it.
