  • Alternator question...

Could a belt slip be a reason why my alternator isn't charging my battery? I just fixed the whining, but I didn't know if that would help. I won't get to drive it until tomarrow.

It would have to be slipping pretty bad to stop charging.

Anything that degrades the performance of the alternator can cause an inadequate charge. Under normal situations, the belt slip would have to be significant, but if you are operating under situations where the load on the system is heavy (running the blower motor a lot, driving at night, etc), the drain could exceed the alternator's output.
