  • scratched my windshield

So the other night i was driving home from the beach and it started raining. Anyways my windshield wiper broke the day before (one of the pins holding the thing together fell out) so i knew it had the possibility of not working properly but it was pouring and i had no place to pull over. so i woke up this morning and washed my car and found scratches from where the metal had rubbed against my window and scratched the $hit outta it. does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do. i know that insurance should replace it for free but i was wondering if anyone has had this happen and what they did.

toothpaste....it sounds weird but it works....put some on a wet rag and buff out the scratches

I had scratches buffed in by using wipers til they wore worn out beyond useful life. Maybe you should consider replacing the entire windshield. All you have to do is make an appointment to a reputable window dealer and give them at least 2 hrs for the new sealer to cure. I've used Bon Ami powdered cleaner for light scratches, found in many supermarkets and it helped little but nothing beats the clarity and free winshield option you have at your disposal. Certain window dealers have onsite repairs done while youre at work or school and thats another route you can go without worry. I had mines done in my driveway while I was asleep and they did a great job provided you left them your credit card info for payment and unlocked your car. Try it.

In some states a new windshield is covered under your insurance free of charge (and they won't raise your premium for claiming this). I know it is here in Massachusetts.

yep, normal old toothPASTE...not gel. lots of elbow grease. Maaybe concetrate on one section and see if you can get it to work. you will be more motivated when you see the scratch getting buffed out.

im pretty sure that the windshield is covered under insurance but if i do that then i have to find time to get it done which looks like what i might have to do.
