Also it's sluggish between 2k and 3k rpm's.. and it's actually getting better... since i took it to the shop it got a little better but still horrible... i just can't believe i was stupid enough to drive threw that deep of water... and it might be an exhaust leek... when i do sit in the drive way and let it idle i can smell the exhaust a little but i don't know if it's blowing from the back or not... and the ticking noise is horrible.. at idle it's loud and when you give it gas it goes with the rpm's and i don't know where exactly it's coming from... when your on the driverside it sound's like it's coming from the passanger side you go to the passanger side it sound's like it's on the driver side... it's horrible... can it be a foul spark plug.. i mean the wire's aren't even a month and a half old... but still do you think one of the plug's could have gone bad.... or would that show up on a ses light or could a rod be bent or what.... and how hard is it to get rod's replaced?

how deep of water were you going through? was it more then say 2 ft? do you think you sucked water into your intake? I know with boats if you suck water into your intake you need to change your spark plugs but I dont know weather or not that applies to cars.
Anyther thing that comes to mind, are you having any trubble with your starter? they sit low and I was once told that if you go through deep water you can damage that.
I am not really a good mechanic either and most people dont let me near there cars.

I hear ya though, it stinks when you are in your teens and trying to keep a nice car nice with minimal funds.

is there any white smoke coming out the exaust? is it missing or skipping? if so you mike have a bent pushrod, if its not missing or skipping, you could still have something bent in the heads such as a pushrod or maybe a broken keeper that is letting something slap the valve covers maybe

I am having the same thing going SO WRONG on my 97. It didn't start till here recently and it is progressively worse. I too am worried about throwing something. If I give it gas, it makes this HORRIBLE "GRRRRrrrrr, tack tack tack tack tack..........noise, but when I get off it, it stops but I still hear the tack tack tack tack noise coming from the back of the engine. When am in second gear, I have ABSOLUTELY NO power..............ahhhhh..........this is really ticking me off!!!!

im sure you have bent connecting rods, and possably more damage. Thats the noise your hearing, and lack of power because they are not closing all they way now.

Take it to a mechanic, or engine rebuild shop. Tell them water got into the engine and you think its done damage. They can lisson to it and should be able to tell you right away what they think. If they suspect or hear adnormal sounds...well...Basicly they want to pull the engine out and totally rebuild it. This is the only way they can be sure of all the damage. My boss had a chevy silverado engine rebuild afew months back, it was a v-6. Think it was like 2800.00 id say around 3000 for parts and labor for the camaro.

Check out your cat converter, as long as the engine didn't stop while you were crossing the water.

A cat converter does not just suddantly stop up. It takes a long period of time, personaly i have never seen a cat go bad on a newer fuel injected car such as all of ours. And most of the time from what ive seen in my buddys shop, unless you drive your car into a pond the engine keeps running.
