Im pretty sure your wrong. 5w-50 would be a thiner oil.Comment

Xw-Y oil is a multi-viscosity oil. The first number I believe is how it flows in the cold compared to a typical oil, and the second is how it flows hot compared to a typical oil. CHeck me on this...I just might have to do that.

Simplified, 15W-50 means that the oil has a certain thickness at low temperatures. 50 means it has a certain thickness at 100 degrees C. The scales are not the same, you can't say 15W weight oil and 15 weight oil are the same thickness. You can only compare aW-b to cW-d. (BTW, the scales for transmission oil are different also).

will give you an idea of how complicated these numbers really are.

The "Performance Driving Formula" means nothing.
Its for trucks & diesels w/ large liter engines.
Good oil, terrible advertising system.
