  • HELP, timing really off, need help fast

I have a 96 Firebird with a 3.8, and I have about 125,000 miles on it. I recently bought scanning software because my car is running terrible. Must punch the gas all the time or else it wont move. My timing is at about -10 to -15 degrees at idle, and while driving it goes to -25 to -35, and maxes out at -38. The highest recorded was +1 degree of advance. Average recorded was about -26 degrees. Could my timing chain be stretched to the max?? I really need help before this Bird looses its wings. I am getting no codes at all. Please help.

    Sounds normal.

Autotap adds a - sign in there.. just ingore it. -25 is really 25 degrees of advance.

thx, but its not autotap, its some other OBD2 software. What could be the problem with my car. Very rough idle, no power, almost stalls all the time, uless i floor it. I replaced the plugs, wires, o2 sensors are fine, everything is running good. I did record random misfires the other day. I reset my computer in the car, and it started running like complete *** . any ideas?

Check/clean and if needed replace your fuel pressure regulator and fuel injectors. I would definantly have them checked out. Possibly a problem with your fuel pump. If you have any voltage drops it could be your battery or alternator. Then have your computer reset. It might be the timing chain or the parts connected to the timing chain, but check the fuel injectors and regulator first.

hey, magnus you are right about the timing. I found the real problem, and have no idea how to fix it. The injector pulse in cylinders #1 and #3 are really weak compared to the others, if I unplug them it doesnt even make a difference in engine performance. What would make the injector signal weaker to just 2 cylinders? and they are right next to each other. I know you guys can help me out.

RC Engineering makes injectors, and they also balance / blueprint injectors. Or you could buy replacements ... might be a voltage / wiring problem though ... But perhaps they've just clogged / gone bad after 125k.
