• Make your own hi octaine gas?

Ok, so i got the jetchip stage 2...and i know that you use premimum gas for it, but the pumps up here have only

87
88.5
90

I always use 90 octaine but shouldn't i need to use higher for the chip? What if i mixed some cheap octaine booster with every tank of gas to up the octaine? Chip comes out in the winter and only got like 1/2 a summer left up here so it won't kill the budget to throw in octaine booster when i fill up.

What are your thoughts on this?

Cheap octane booster is crap and a half.

A friend of mine has a recipe for making ghetto race gas using pump gas and toluene paint thinner. I don't think I'd try something like that but he says it works. If you want the recipe let me know and I'll get it for you.

I bet that you'll be able to get away with 90 just fine, especially in Alaska.

my buddy uses that homemade stuff in his Chevelle... he has 12:1 compression... Its a necessity... Although... watch out for the toluene.. its a carcinogen..(sp??) its bad stuff if you get it on you or in your brain... just stick with the pump gas, 90is enough, jsut get some 104+ or somthing .

I use to work at the airport and I know a few people that got some AVGAS which is pretty much 100 octane, and put a little bit of that in with there gas. Haven't heard no complaints, lol. :D
You could always go up to the airport near you and buy a few gallons, it's probably over $2.00/gal. And just add a little to it each time you need the octane boosted. Don't listen to me though, I really don't know what im talking about.

The need for higher octane is to prevent pre-detonation. Several things cause PD...it is more common in higher temp cliamtes so 90 should be fine for you.

Well if your engine is running at 200 degrees (or whatever it runs at) wouldn't 200 degrees in alaska be the same as 200 degrees in texas?

That would work as long as you don't get "100 low lead". Lead will f*ck a modern engine to h*ll and back.

Lead will not so much hurt the engine, but it will kill the CAT......DEAD!

The lead coats the "honeycomb" inside the cat, and prevents it from contacting the exhaust.

.......plus don't let the smog police see ya.....its federal offense if ya get got.

You'll do just fine on 90

temp of the engine is irrelavent... octane changes depending on areas because of the oxygen density of the air going into the engine itself... trust me on this, if the fuel companies say that hi-octane gas is 90 octane then its premium gas.... they did research to determine what octane was good for each region.

I am in contact with all the local race shops and when I purchased racing fuel(for race car) I got 115 leaded for about $5 a gallon.
