  • reverse and stalled

earlier i pulled up to a light and realized i wanted to go right instead, so i hit the gas back, and then apparently i put it back into drive too fast (a4) and the car jolted, kept going backward, and then wouldnt go forward. so i paniced thinking i ruined teh tranny, put on the hazards, turned teh car off, put it in park, turned it back on, put it back in drive, and PHEW it went. is this a 'stall?' im not sure what i did, also could there be any other possible damage? it got home fine. thanks

Damn dude. your lucky noone was behind you. I say you shouldnt jump into your gears so fast. it is a auto. they are complicated machines.

I did that when I put my shift kit in. I still had it up on stands and jacks and was testing each gear. I finished and didn't think about hitting the brake to stop the wheel's from spinning before I slaped it into reverse and then into park  you ever have that feeling where you can feel your nuts shrinking? well it turned out that didn't mess it up any so that was good.

Ya I was going in reverse going about 5 mpg and put it in park and the thing made a grinding noise. So I went up the rode and it shifted ok. This was back when I still had my Firebird. I miss my f-body. So I think if you weren't going backwards vary fast then I think you should be ok.
