just checked my coolant today... and it was very low, and there is all kinds of dirt and rust in the coolant tank and radiator...

how hard is it to clean out the coolant system?

the type of coolant doesnt have to do with it being dirty...

you do not have to use dex cool, just because it says to in the manual... dex cool just lasts longer... which is no big deal to me...

      but, to answer ur question...
i have no idea what was in there... (from previous owner)

but, i just put some napa in there until i find out what to do next...

so... after reading some more, i realize i messed up...
didnt read close enough to know not to mix the dex cool and green coolant (i drained some coolant off, and a reddish brown coolant came out... im guessing this is dirty dex cool?

do i need to flush the whole system now... or will it be ok to have the green and red in there for a while?

Next time use Prestone, they mix perfectly...

I would highly reccomend you drain and flush your coolant system but if you drain the radiator a few times you might come out lucky...

My dad is a GM tech, I got to change my coolant using a vac machine in shop while the engine was running and the thermostat opened up, remove the radiator cap sucked all of the coolant and watched the rediator hoses become flat then refilled from a second tank and I didn't even have to bleed the system. That was cool, only took 5 mins maybe, beats payin for that premix coolant that everyone only sells now, and boy is it exspensive, about the same cost as dexcool. Anyway figured I tell you how I drained and filled my radiator.
