i saw some new mobil-1 stuff that cliams to last 15000 miles, at walmart. i was confused becuse the oil should be changed every 3000. could this be that oil changes incriment will permantly change in the future?

My friend has a Bimmer and 15k is the recommended interval. If he changes it himself he voids warranty. And each time he goes they charge $100. But luckily it's 15k...

They tested an LS1 with mobile one for 15,000 miles it didn't even come close to breaking down, technically speaking synthetics are made to last 6000 miles.

Personally, I prefer Red Line. I also use their tranny fluid, fuel system cleaner, and water wetter. Nice stuff indeed.

You all are ripping yourselves off on oil. I change mine every 7K and it's still too early. And no, I don't drive easy on it. If you're easy on your car, you're actually good for 20K miles. We ran our old 86 Caprice (with a 305 V8) 25 Thousand miles before we changed the oil. The car had over 200K miles on it when we sold it, and it was still goin strong as of 2001. I haven't seen the car around anymore since I started college, so it's hard to tell what mileage it's on now. I just use regular Pennzoil, non synthetic.

J/K [I don't know you], but that stuff must have been tar when it came out of the car.

Royal Purple and Redline are interesting choices, but are far past the point of diminishing returns. It's hard to convince me to pay over $6/quart for oil when I just bought some Mobil 1 on clearance for $2.75.

For what it's worth, the consensus over at that oil site is that Redline is the sh** while RP is merely ok in its "normal" version. The race versions seem to do much better, but they're much harder to find in a regular parts store.

Yup man, 25K, I know it sounds crazy, but that's the way it went. I'm not talkin 2500 miles either for those who think maybe I'm just thinkin the wrong number. The only problems the car had while we owned it was the ocassional "deiseling" it would do when we shut it off. Pretty much, it tried to stutter and keep running after shut off, but only did it like once a month. It was rare. That, and it overheated on the way to Florida on us once. That's about it.

Here's what dad said he did with the car. He put 5 Quarts of Pennzoil. When 25K miles passed, he put in 1 Quart of Rezlon, ran it for 5 minutes, then drained the oil. Add 5 more quarts of Pennzoil and you're done.
