  • Please help...

Hey I'm new here, and I already need help. I have a 1993 camaro 3.4 v6, automatic...here's the problem. Late last year, around august or so, the shifter did something INCREDIBLY weird. I think something broke, because now where park should be it's reverse, where reverse should be is neutral, where neutral should be is drive. I can't even put it in park; I need to use my E-Brake. I'm seriously confused, and I did continue driving it with the problem, just using the E-Brake as my park. Can someone please please give me any information on what this could be and how to fix it. If you know how please help me. Even if you want to post that this has happened to you or someone you know it'd be great...hope this isn't major. Any help at all is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

The shifter cable needs to be adjusted. It's not a big deal but I've never owned an auto so I have no idea how to do it. I don't think that a shop would charge too absorbitant a rate to fix it though.

Yeah this happened to mine. The shifter cable is attached to a lever to the tranny. The lever is what you'll have to adjust it is pretty much right under the shifter on the bottom, I had to slide comletely to the middle of the car to have enough room/vision to tell what I was doing.

Without knowing exactly what went wrong with it, it's hard to tell, hopefully shifter just jumped places on you.

I'd suggest trying to slide the shifter all the way forward or backwards (can't remember which way, if you have a 2nd person they could tell you which way the shifter is moving while you move the lever) Hopefully that will fix it, if you move the lever to Park, and then try moving the shifter to park. If that doesn't do it I have no clue without taking the cable off.

I "stretched" mine somehow, and just slide the lever into drive so i could get it to a garage.
Hope that helps somewhat. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

oh one more thing - Don't have the car running while your under it shifting gears

and then tell the person under it to look closely, then put it in park and keep revving the engine up to 7000 rpm and just hold it, and blow it up in his face '-'.
