'98+ Harmonic Balancer on a '96

hi, i have a '96 3.8 and the harmonic balancer is worn out. bought a new balancer but what i got looks much different. it looks like the '98+ balancer. has anyone ever attempted to put the new balancer onto an older model. doesn't seem as if it will even mount up correctly. heres a pic of both....http://www.tacreationsusa.com/balancers.htm

I don't know if this helps but I run a '95 balancer on a 2000 motor.
