  • Car Cuts off while driving it. Need your help.

O.k., my car cranks just fine, it has a 130k miles on it and has a small "studder" in its acceleration. (just to to give you an idea) For some reason, I can be driving down the road and all of a sudden, my car's engine will just shut off. It doesn't shake or anything, just an immediate drop in rpms. everything electrical stays on and never loses power. I pull off the road and crank it back up, let it sit for about a minute and its fine for maybe another 10 minutes- 3 weeks. Its really aggrivating me, and i'm getting scared its gonna drop me some where. But I need yoru help. one time I did get a code, P0336 (Crankshaft Position Sensor A CKT Range/Perf). If you guys have any clue, please let me know something....

I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. I don't know if its the same prob you are having though. My pvc pipe that I replaced the air silencer with fell off so the engine wasn't getting air and it killed the engine. Check you intake and make sure it isn't clogged up or anything.

My old Mustang GT used to do that. It was the ignition module. Get's too hot, car shuts off. wait 5-10 minutes, car starts back up. Just a thought.

If you threw a crankshaft code, thats probably what it is. The problem will get steadly worse, and you will start to get pissed off when your in a hurry. When I was having the same problem I bought a new one, but probably didn't need to. There is a plastic cover behind the harmonic balancer that protects the sensor. But sometimes dirt and grime sneakes past this and covers the sensor making it impossible to get good readings from the crank. Try cleaning the sensor first with some electral cleaner before you buy.
