Push button starter

How would you go about installing a push button to start your car? I'm done with the easy part - I got the button [img]smile.gif[/img] Now I need some instructions on how to wire it. My car is a 96 Firebird.

Are you looking to eliminate the key all together, or still use the key to turn to on, and then a button to actually start it?

No, I am not looking to eliminate the key altogether.

I have an ignited push button ignition on my car. You can see pics on the website below. I have a wiring diagram here somewhere...if I can find it, I will scan it and post. There is a relay involved so that it can only be activated when the key is in the "RUN" position. At this point, I can still use the key if I need to, but the ignition cylinder is messed up which is the main reason that I put the push-button in. Wiring is very simple so if you need some little tips here and there, drop me an E-mail.

I'd like a setup where i dont have to use the key altogether (similar to the remote start setups where if the key is not in and the car has started and you push the brake pedal the car turns off. I already have the remote starter installed). I would just like to be able to turn on the car with the push of a button when i want to. Thanx.

I did this on my old firebird. I had the rear hatch pop button as the button. :D It was pretty cool, because I had one person try to steal it, and they failed miserably, but I dont want someone else, that might know more, to come along and mess with it. I will look for a wiring diagram, I beleive I can find one on the thirdgen.org boards. Later,

A buddy of mine actually purchased the push button starter from the Honda S-2000 as a part from a dealer... Somehow he figured out how to wire it... It's now mounted where his cig lighter used to be. Turns on the ignition w/his key, pushes the button, and VOILA!! It's started... He's got a 2000 Z28 I believe...

They really are pretty simple. They are inexpensive too for decent ones like the Ignited one that I have.

Thats bad ***, where were you back in 2001 when the lock cylinder went out on my 3.4L I could have saved a good $300 [img]smile.gif[/img]

anyone that does this just make sure that you are not running the ign switch hot feeds through the push switch or it will burn up. A ground siganl to a relay would be a much better alternitive
