Basically, our cars can take what you give it(87-93) and run fine, if it is running well. If you drive mostly freeway and drive like a grandma, and your car is well maintained, 87 is fine. But if you're like me and your car is a garage queen and you mainly take it out for weekend thrashings on the backroads and rev the piss out of her from time to time... ;) ..then you can benefit a bit performance wise using 91.

I have a 97 RS with the Y87 Package, and CAI... I switched to V-Power Premium from Shell (93 Octane) and noticed absolutely NO difference between it and 87 Octane, I didn't get a performance increase, no smoother ride/accelleration, no increased gas milage at all. I typically get 340 - 380 a tank depending on how I drive, with 93 I got 360... My last fill up with 87 Octane got me 370 so it did me absolutely no good...1997 Camaro RS W/T-Tops
All Stock / 200 HP

I use Shell V-Power 93 and my SES light stays off. Soon as use the 87 stuff it pops back on however the 93 V-Power makes my car idle smoothly and accelerate better. I will add that I've done spark plugs and wires recently with an oil change so I'm happy with Shell at $2.12 a gallon for the premium fuel blend. I haven't used Sunoco or Mobil premium grades yet though. Some posts recommended me replacement of EGR or O2 sensors and I will do so in the spring hopefully and post my results then.Black \'96 RS Camaro, 3.8 V6 Series II, M5, Stock 200 HP, 204K miles! I run, 87, and throw in a few gallons of 93 when its around track time. Never notice a difference, their are times I only run 87 at the track I just do it to be safe, woudl rather have a little bit better octane then to little and expereince a little knock, and have the PCM retard the timing at the track. not so worried about the timing difference more worried about the gas not being up to the listed octane level.
On my car never noticed a difference to even mention.
also for what its worth ran 100 octane, and did nothing for my car at the track but keep it from sputtering because I almost ran out of gas, and wasn't going to be able to leave the track to a gas station.-Eric
2000 NBM V6 Camaro 5-speed T-top converted
14.467@95.45mph $0 in mods
The member formerly known as MustangEater8251

First your replying to a 3 year old thread!
Second please explain how higher octane of gas makes the car run rich and make less power?sigpic
