what would it take to swap oil pans?

would I have to drop the engine out and swap it or can I do it with the engine in the car?

my bro poped the pan on a curb and it has to be replaced.

Depends on what kind of car and engine. I don't see it being a problem on a 3.8 V6 with a little patience and some jack stands.
