  • engine knock(too high of an octane rating?)

ok i put a full tank of premium fuel in my car the other day..its rated at 93 octane..can too high of an octane cause your engine to knock? i thought i read in here awhile abck that it could. if it can, how bad is it for the engine? and if start putting regular in, rated at 87, will this cure the problem? any answers at all are helpful..thanks guys

Higher octane is supposed to eliminate knock, while lower octane causes knock on engines designed for high octane. You got it backwards.

Make sure that noise isn't something else.

The noise could be a small gremlin in your engine bay beating on your firewall because you spent too much on gas for the 3.3L of destroked fury.

                  S10s are where its at!

I also have a 90 Olds Cutlass as me and my brothers backup car. 3.3 with 200k. I love that car, its always there for us. It has eibach pro kit springs with KYBs, Olds Cutlass supreme 16" rims with 225/50s all around. People dont like getting out handled by an Oldmobile.

Sometimes if you put higher octane it might cause problems, due to the fact that fuel resists ignition more. Try putting manufacurer recommended fuel octane rating next time.

i had an s-10 with a 4.3. it was pretty quick, certainly faster than my buddies 5.0 formula.

                      oh yea, and lower octaine=knock
