  • HO alt with underdrive pully question

I have underdrive pullies on my car and am about to put my amp and subs back in. I was going to be adding a capicter this time but with the underdrive pullies the battery undercharges as it is. I am wondering if I can just get a high output alt and solve both problems. will a HO alt charge more that idle that the stock alt?

yes but with underdrive pullies the whole point is to slow the alt, water pumpp, AC units down to reduce parasitic drag. so a HO alt would be bettre than what you have now but it would still not produce as much power as a HO would with a stock pulley.

yes, most stock alts dont put there power out at idle... you can easily see this especially in my car... if u rev the engine, you can see the voltage raise and go back down...

HO alts usually put maybe like 120 at idle, for a good 180 amp alt

as long as it helps keep the voltage up witht he underdrive pullies it is fine with me, even if I haft to get a capiciter for the amp so it will not drop at idle.

A capacitor won't help you at all. Just get the HO alt. Most of them do close to their rated power by 1500 rpms. The stock alt puts out a max 105 amps and thats at almost 3000rpm's(3.8l but should be the same with the 3.4)
