  • The darn " Spark Plug wire" issue!

Greetings everybody. I've noticed that alot of CAMARO owners ( like myself 95, V6 3800 ) are having a continuous problem with saggy performance, check engine light flashing on, and mis-firing, all due to wire failure.
I keep hearing the same things about this too. Change your wires, make sure the wires are routed correctly, check your coil packs,...

We can all agree that the design on where to put those darn wires wasn't the best thing Chevy came up with either.

But there are thousands of peopple out there, that just don't have this problem! I ask you,.... "What have you done differently " ?!?

I've heard the installation of "headers" would solve this problem? Somebody told me headers give the wires more clearance and makes them less likely to make contact with the exhaust manifold? Is that true?

Would wire sleeves help? Does anybody know where can I find an abestos sleeve to protect my wires from the " manifold heat " This seems like a common factor in these situations?

Do I need a specific wire for this? MSD has a 8.5 wire,... should this be what I'm running? Has anybody ever heard of "Nology wires"?

I know that this was a long posting but I really love this car! I'd like to do all types of upgrades on it, but I can't get it to run right for more than four months at a time!

Thanks for lending me your ears guys. -kevin.

The thousands of people you don't hear from haven't had a problem. And they probably haven't done anything special to their wires either. While I hate to defend the General, plug wire routing isn't rocket science and their method is as good as any. I think you will find that a lot of plug wires get change unnecessarily. It's easier to just swap out a wire and eliminate that as a potential issue than to do in-depth testing and diagnosis to make sure there is a problem.
