  • z28 gauge cluster swap

I got my new z28 cluster today for my engine swap next month. Any how, I put it in now, still with my 3.8, and I ran into some problems. First I couldn't get the speedo to work, but finally did. While driving, I noticed that the Temp gauge wasn't going up at all. When I filled up, the fuel gauge didn't move at all either. I took the needle off when I got home, and stuck it back on at F, hopefully that'll work. That's what I did to get the speedo to work. Also, the ARS OFF light is on. That's the airbag light right? What can I do to get rid of this light? MY camaro is a 97, and the seller said the Z cluster is from a 98. How can I get the Temp gauge to work properly also? When I turn the car off, the temp then goes to 210. What can I do? Any help would be appriciated.

Ok, so far the Temp gauge seems to be working right. Can't tell yet about the gas gauge, but that should. Just have to see if it starts dropping. Now, what about the airbag light? Will it be on when I put the LT1 in there also? Also, the LOW OIL light is on, and I checked the oil and even put some in, and the light is still on? Is this because of it being an 8cy gauge, and it's currently reading a 6cy motor? Please let me know if anyone knows anything about this.

The gauge cluster is probably wired differently. :(

I think you would not have had problems if you'd used a '93-'97 V8 cluster. I've heard of many people who did that mod to their V6 and the only negative is that the tach does not read correctly due to reading 2 less cylinders.

By using a '98 cluster which of course is the LS1 rather than the LT1 there are other differences apparantly.

If you are swapping in an LS1 I would not worry about it now since most likely it will work correctly with the new motor. You are changing out the wiring harness with the computer, correct?

ASR is the traction control light, not airbag.

F1GT, yeah, I kinda figured that out, thanks. ;) The only problem I have now is my gas gauge don't work. I filled up last week, and took the needle off and stuck it back on at F, and it hasn't moved since. When, I first start the car, the needle goes all the way past F to the right and comes back over to F, so i know it's at least getting power, or that it moves. But it hasn't went down at all yet. Anyone know what I can do to fix this problem? And as far as the years go, the only other year I can use is a 97. 93-96 is different. And it's hard to find a 97 cluster. Thanks again.
