• Man, I am running hot!!

Whenever I am stuck in traffic, my temp needle usually goes to the 210 mark, half a millimeter past it, then the fan turns on.

Now, I am stuck in traffic, and it is going WAY past 210!! Not to 260, but far enough to make me worry .

Anything I should check? Thermonstat is stock, I haven't changed the coolant since I bought the car (June 2001). I have a shop and Haynes manual, so I think I can do some stuff by myself.

Oh yeah, one time during the summer, I was in traffic, and the needle was way past the 210 mark, and I saw a slight amount of smoke come out of the hood creases. The fan turned on, but I pooed myself

I would check your coolant first of all. I would probably think about investing into a fan switch. My switch keeps my car close to 180-190 in traffic in 100 degree weather.

And where could I get a fan switch?

Like redsix already said check the coolant. If it is low, if it is burnt it will be brownish and probably smell like fish. I use dexcool but I heard someone mention it clogs I haven't had any problems with it. I wouldn't worry too much about the water pump. What your describing is very normal for our cars to do. It made me uncomftorable so I changed down to a 180 thermostat and put a manual fan switch in also. You might want to check if both of your fans are coming on (or if your fan is coming on, if you have a single fan). Oh jason? What do you mean by the water pump exploding?

lets just say that the lady before me (only had my car a couple of months) mixed green + dex. after the water pump died (leak so bad i said it exploded) the whole front of my engine looked like it had rusted cause coolant was everywhere. if i had been driving and then stoped for a few seconds, id have a good 1/4 foot radius circle of water/old coolant where my car was. if i filled the radiator and resevoir with water, in no more than 5 hours it would all be empty again. my dads friend changed the water pump, and it wont go over 190-200 anymore

Hmm thats weird... I take it the spinner I guess it's called inside it was all rusted out? I was having a problem with coolant turning kind of burnt I couldn't tell if it was rusty or not. But someone suggested it was the waterpump. I changed it anyway since it was only $40. The old one was fine.

it getting this hot in really hot weather is somewhat normal... my car does this too. I just turn on the A/C to get the fans on some and then turn it off. Im going to be putting in a manual fan switch soon tho b/c its annoying to get the car like 240-250.
