  • 84 camaro problems....

this isnt for a v6......but this is the best forum i know where i can get help.

    Car is a 84 camaro 5.0

i changed the fuel filter the egr valve the mixture control solenoid and done changed the carb gasket out. It turns on it idles fine but when i push the gas to accelerate it dont stall but it acts like it dont wanna give it any gas . i can drive real slow but as soon as i push it to go faster it dont wanna go i know its a fuel problem that has to do with electrical stuff. me and my dad are both puzzled.

It sounds like you're talking about a carbureted car. If that is the case, check the needle valve and float level in the float bowl. What you're describing is what happens when the float level goes to hell or the needle valve goes bad. Enough fuel to start and run the engine at very low RPMs seeps through, by anything faster drains the float bowl. I once got stuck out in the sticks and drove a 67 Valiant for 30 miles at 10 MPH because of the exact same problem.

have you rebuilt the carb yet? any codes? The tps should be looked into. WHen the carb is off, shake it, see if you can hear it "rattle" If it dont, you'll need a new one. Or, when rebuilding carb, whicj\h can be done while still on car, take tps in & have tested for free :D

Also, included in the rebuild kit is a new throttle/power valve. when you accelerate, it oushed on the plunger on the top left of the carb. If the seal on the plunger is crapped out, it will also affect off idle performance. While you're at it, check all vacum hoses going to the carb too.

        Anything else? ;)

It could be, but the only way to check is take it to a dealer. If it is bad, then either the PROM is crapped, or the mainboard.

              What about a clogged exhaust?
If the cat has melted down, it can cause massive backpressure.
