So when my car is in any drive, even reverse, it studders, you can even feel it in the seat. It's not a bad noise or anything it just studders, du, du, du, du and when it drive (it's automatic) it doesn't shift well in gears. It's at a shop now and the idiots can't figure out what's wrong. He was like I think it's the spark plug wires, but I just got brand new plugs and wires 5 months ago, they can't be bad right? Any clues on this????

heres things to replace
plugs, wires, coil packs.
it has to be one of those 3 things. i'm not sure how the coil packs are on fbodies, but on my DSM theres 2 separate ones that control the cylinders in this order
[41] [23]
then from there they're connected to a transistor pack.
you can test the coils. get a chiltons manual, they're you're best friend

mine does the same thing. I followed everyone's advice.
The plugs, wires, and coil paks were changed. It ended up being none of the previous. I suggest you take it to a different mechanic that knows what they are doing. Randomly fixing things is expensive, trust me!Soon to be Mommy!
2005 Honda Pilot EX-L

Im having what sounds like the same prob as this (sputtering) The codes it was giving said misfire in 4th cylinder, and then something about EGR valve position sensor. I looked everywhere online for this sensor and nobody seemed to have one for my Firebird. So yesterday i go to the Pontiac Dealership. The parts guy there says my car doesnt have an EGR position sensor. So why in hell did the code say i needed one? pfttttttttttt on my way walking out, i asked a mechanic about what i learned. He said the EGR on my car is computer controlled. He told me to replace my plugs/wires and check the coil packs...1996 Arctic White Firebird , Auto , stock http://www.cardomain.com/id/smokeyinswf

I just got out from being under my Firebird for an hour changing 1 single spark plug wire ! :( Well in my 96 Firebird the plugs arent exactly easy to access. I had to go from underneath and everytime i got the wire on i tried getting behind the wire head and push it on( NO room!)it would slowly slide off. I got a little irrate then paused for a smoke break(the good kind!)and then went back underneath it with a whole new attitude :D first try slid on and then got the metal cover back on.. With all those symptoms i was having with the sputtering and codes saying misfire on 4th cylinder, bad EGR valve, i replaced 1 plug wire and she runs excellent !!!!! Looking over the bad plug wire i could see really nothing wrong. Until i spotted a flat spot due to a melt(really small) i squeezed it and out came the internal wire :D Needless to say my Firebird is running better than ever !!( i have only had it 3 weeks and apparently had the problem the whole time)For all those with sputtering probs, check your wires !!!! Mine appeared new and kinda weird that the bad wire caused 5 codes to show up on my check engine light.Well now im off to cruise and hopefully take out a few ricers along the way !!
