  • Do i know enough???

hello. i'm a 17 year old kid with an 00 camaro. i love it to death and really want to modify it. i keep considering it, but my only worry is that i'll mess it up and have to have a mechanic charge me $500 to tell me whats wrong, then more to fix it. i want to start with cheap mods since i am only a bus boy at a retaurant and am in the 3 year process of paying for half of my car and insurance(deal made with my awesome dad).

just to let all of you know. i have a passion for killing 4-cylinder hondas and acuras

what kind of mods are you talking about? small mods like intake? What are you specifically trying to do?

Start small, do your intake and exhaust. There's plenty of good options with these, and you can't screw up the motor with them.

p.s. Just keep asking questions if you're not sure. That's what we're all here for. Just do a search first and you'll find tons of information.

As long as you do the research, follow instructions, and take your time with mods you will not mess anything up.

        Good luck,

i already bought the car with exhuast. i'm not stupid, but i try not to be the kid who thinks he knows everything...because i don't. i have a general understanding of combustion engines and how forced induction works, but some things confuse me still. for mods, i'm looking into and air intake, larger spark plug wires and possibly gapping my plugs a little more. for the summer, i wanted to save up some money and do more things. i've already talked to my local mechanic about pricing for an lsd installation. and am trying to figure out the total cost. if i have the money, and assistance, i want to put roller rocker arms on during the summer. i'll keep posting and thanks guys for your guidance.

Sounds like you've got the right mind set to start hackin at it. Id recomend ordering in a cold air intake for your car... I guess the 00's are differnt, but the FRTA or whatever =) its called, basic mods like this cant be done wrong really. Most people start off really not knowing how to do anything and what they learn is that it just takes a little bit of confidence and the ability to not get discuraged when something doesnt go 100% to plan- Do some simple stuff. Its cool its already got exhaust. Id say stuff like, order some 6½ speakers and put thoughs in ( gotta take off the door panels to do the fronts ) Just play with ur car. Get a manual for it and just have fun with it.

i'm not really a sub-woofer kinda guy. it already has a 5 speed with 3.23 gears, i'm almost positive. one question about the intake. is the free ram air worth it? and i don't understand how something like a whisper lid could work as well as they claim. about ram air system's, i'm too worried about crap running into my engine, and i don't know if i could trust a little filter for it, plus it would subtract from my hp.

I don't know much about cars, and haven't messed up mine yet. About to install Nitrous though, so who knows? :D Yeah, do your research.
