Got out on the interstate and the car ran up rather quickly to 100. I said "huh, I wonder how fast it will go". So I floored it and it jumped to 106,107,108,109... I glaced down at the tach and it was running 5200 RPMs just as it hit 110. I had always thought it was a fuel cut off but really it was an igintion cut off. I heard it cuttout for a split second then pickup then cuttout so I slowed down. Just a little FYI. ;)
It in 3rd gear TCC lockup @ WOT. It was still pulling hard.
I hit the 110 limiter around 3400 rpms in 5th gear.

No way in hell you can hit 110 in 3rd gear... youd need to be at 8500 rpms

How the hell can I break 115 in 3rd gear then? We're both automatic...
You don't know what you're talking about.

Okay i have a ? Everyone says the gov. is 110. I have 95 M5, and i've burried the speedo past 115 many times. My speedo isn't off all the way to about 85, past that i'm not sure, could it be off past that but not below it? Just wondering why i hit 115-119 and i'm supposed to have a gov. by the way i do have a gov but it doesn't kick in till the speedo reads about 119 or so. what gives?
Speedometer's are off by ratio. They attempt to be as close to zero as possible in the area where most of your driving will be done, some where near 45 MPH. Below that its reading slower, above that it reads faster.
At 70 MPH it may be off a mile or two, provided everything is calibrated as OEM intended. But once you get near 100 or faster the difference in speed becomes off by quite a bit.
The govenor is set to 115 MPH by GM due to the speed rating of the tires. Not 110, not 105, not 95...115.
I have run 115 probably close to 25-50 times when my M49 was completely stock. With a gear change and no re-calibration done the VSS will slow me down a slight amount. Maybe 5 MPH.
The factory speedometer in most cases is not a very good judge for top speed capabilities. It, along with everything else is designed for the general public. Not number crazy racers.
They only real accurate (and easy) way to account for top speed is with a handheld GPS/tracking unit. It measures speed by satelite triangulation and does so to the tenth of a mile per hour.

Maybe the top speed is 95 if you have 4.11s lol
Yes I have 3.23s
Even with 3.73s I can go 116mph at the top of 3rd gear.
